pondering a low buck screamin demon. im thinkin early ford ranger frame, 6 inch dropped tube axle,parallel leaf front suspension. dana 60 from dodge van with spool,mounted solid out back. about 110-115 inch wheelbase. speedway motors 23 T glass body.adapted ranger spindles,hubs and steering. a funny car cage. a single carbed alky burning sb chevy,hooked to a built th-200 4r [i like the low rotational mass,close ratios and low first gear]. on board starter and charging system,big fan cooled trans cooler[maybe an a.c. condenser] but no engine cooling system. im thinking vortec headed 305 on the cheap. with the dana 60,maybe i can use low enough rear gear to pull fourth gear through the traps, with almost no drive shaft length, i dont think i need to worry about shaft rotation speed! what are YOUR ideas for a cheap/fast car?
part 2.... im thinking i would use the frame under slung, with both axles and the front suspension ABOVE the frame.15 x 4 weld superlite wheels up front, use the 8 lug[dodge van] drum brakes out back. BART 16 x 12, 8 lug,8 hole chrome steel wheels mounting 14 x 32 x 16 slicks out back. the sb chevy 305 one piece rear main seal, hydraulic roller block is filled with k-b cast flat top pistons, topped with 1.94 x 1.50 valved 64cc chamber vortec heads, fed by a bowtie single plane manifold, dumping alky into it from a holley 850 cfm carb. pvs 1.5 ratio shaft rockers. the cam is a hydraulic roller [using OEM lifters] from comp cams,#08-443-8. 242-248 degree duration at 50, 110 degree LSA, 0.540-0.562 inch valve lift, installed 6 degrees advanced.
part 3.... so with 1 3/4 inch tube headers,RACE mufflers,about 420 horse power,a 3,000 rpm converter,and 1,800 LBS. with driver,shifting at 6,500 rpm, any body got any suggestions for what rear gear i should run to be spinning about 6,000 rpm through the lights in fourth gear?... dear staffers, does any one use this forum any more? besides ME that is?
