I've been working on this car for a while now. Finally got the trans lines hooked up. Car moves under it's own power. 1st and reverse work great, but I can't seem to shift out of first. It's a 200-4R I pulled from the junkyard out of a cadillac. I pulled the pan before I put it in and it looked really clean, no metal pieces or water or dark fluid in there. It's full of fluid and running at operating temp (I'm pretty sure it is at least. I don't have a trans temp gauge.)I got it up to about 20-25 mph and it wouldn't go to second. Also don't have any response on the speedo, may be related to the issue. Any ideas? I've got the shift linkage hooked up right, TV cable installed, it's not making any odd noises or vibrations or anything. But it is not even attempting to shift to second. The car's not road legal so I can't pull it out on the road (which is a 55 MPH 4 lane highway) I can only do test laps around the neighborhood. Thanks in advance!
metric 200 models.. 200-4R models.. 700R4 and 4L60 without the E models use a throttle valve cable that needed to be adjusted to within 1/16" of perfect for the transmission to shift properly.. it only takes a block or two of driving with the throttle valve cable disconnected or mis adjusted to ruin the transmission.. warning.. most carbs do not have the PROPER ANGLE to PULL the cable ratio. they are set up for the passing gear or kick down cable with a TH350 transmission..i don't know anything about your car or set up.. i see you have been a member for a while.. this is if you have a carb.. if you have Tuned port fuel injection.. Throttle body fuel injection.. feed back carb from newer than 1982.. it will have the proper 1 inch or 25MM from center of the throttle shaft to the center of the pickup pin for the TV cable.the TH350 set up on carbs is slightly longer.. the proper way to set it is to push the release button on the cable casing at the carb bracket.. while depressing it.. pull the cable core backwards against the spring tension.. release the locking tab..then engine off.. open throttle to WIDE OPEN. this will make the adjustment you just pulled click several times as it adjusts..if you don't have the proper adaptor to correct the length from center.. you will pull the cable out of adjustment and it will leave the line pressure in the transmission to low.. on another diagnostic step.. when you pull on the throttle valve cable.. you should feel some tension on it.. once in a great while the boost valve in the transmission .
I adjusted the TV cable using that same procedure, I also have a edelbrock carb with that same linkage plate kit. I think it's adjusted right, though, it doesn't *snap* back after you pull it out, just kinda retracts instead.

a few items available.. for hard core internal fixes for the 200-4r transmission..http://www.sonnax.com/units/209-200-4Rperhaps the governor gear is stripped or broken.. even hanging up..take a look at this video that discusses the governor on these..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVP53P0LGQg
