To ping or not to ping that is the question..

poor octane booster.. i knew it well...

too many well thought out answers on this off site thread to give you a decent answer my self.. so i will just link it..

i did not read it all the way thru.. yet.. tonight i will..

CC or HRM went over some issues a while back...

av gas is designed for a slow spinning engine..  to reduce detonation at the air aircraft endings operating speeds of 1600 to 2500 rpm or so.. i don't think that range is correct.. but i know they have to keep the tip of the prop below supersonic..

running av gas in a high speed engine looses power as the combustion process is not done fast enough with av gas before the piston has moved away ... so there is less push at high speed.. but it does work better at very low speeds.. like if you lugged the engine taking off from a stop in high gear..

so the speed of the flame front expanding is slower with av gas...

doe that mean that racing gasoline has a faster expanding flame front.. probably..

it will also have a higher resistance to heat causing /starting combustion.. this allows the engine to operate at higher compression ratios and higher engine speeds..

want to know something..   a few years back here in california.. MTBE was used in the gasoline here in a MAJOR scam on the public... not just for money. but it also screwed up the drinking water for hundreds of thousands if not millions of people..

MTBE reduced measurable emissions by up to 30 percent..  but they were only measuring the emissions by looking at the HEXANE molecule..  why they got it into the fuel .. it reduced the MPG by up to 30%.. so you had to buy 30 percent more fuel. it caused fuel fires as the older cars and even new cars leaked fuel as the MTBE ate up the soft components in some fuel systems..  it cost nissan $1,800.00 per car for 750,000 cars that got recalled.. installing new injectors, fuel hoses and several other parts on many many cars to prevent fuel fires..
