Hello, I need some serious help here. I can tear apart and rebuild engines to factory all day long. But when it comes to performance builds I'm lost. Too many options and too many brands. Now, I need help with a 383 stroker design. I have a 95 chevy silverado reg cab short wide that I bought with a 2 bolt main TBI 383 stroker in it. Dumb right? So I want to rebuild it a 4 bolt main but build the best motor on a budget. Also want to hook up a junkyard turbo to it. I'm not good with all the technical stuff when it comes to a build. Like compression, cam lift and duration, etc. I'm looking at rebuilt, ported, and polished vortec heads for $400 and thinking a Vortec to carb intake and maybe a 750 double pumper carb? Looking for turbo hookup help, cam help, which pistons to use, what carb, and headers. Has electric fans already and will be doing underdrive pulleys and such to squeeze all the power I can out of it. Also need trans help it had factory 5 speed, rebuild or junk? Rear end? Looking to build a track worthy truck. Probably have wet NOS too, bout a 175 shot or so. Just looking for ideas.
How much is your budget.Sometimes a budget can be $500 if you already have a pile of good spare parts or a budget can be several thousand dollars if you have to buy everything new.The problem with junkyard turbos is they are never optimal for the new motor. I say do your home work before jumping on the turbo wagon.
And call the companies that sell them. Most have a Tech line to ask questions on. Just have all your info ready.
Well my budget is about $2000 and what about the factory 5 speed? Rebuild or junk it?
You're not going to get far on 2k.Cheap can be reliable but you'd better know what you're doing first.
