My friend and i are wanting to do a cam upgrade to the 5.7 vortec out of a '97 silverado. stock has roller lifters. he's kind of wanting to do it cheap. summit has mild cam sets with flat tappet lifters.....would it be ok to trade out the stock cam and lifters for a mild set?

Giving up roller lifters for flat tappets is going in reverse. Just get a cam for the application and keep the rollers.

ok....money for power, which is better? stock is:191/196 degrees @.050, .414-.428 lift, 111 LSA.....which is better? mind you this is for mild cam in a 5.7L vortec in a jeep with 4.10 gears. wanting gains for money. chevy performance: 196 int./206 exh.,0.431 int./0.451 exh, 109...or Comp Cams: 050 inch Lift: 206 int./210 exh, 0.450 int./0.480 exh, 112 LSA.

In stock form the Vortecs won't handle much more lift than .450". If your heads have not been modified for additional lift go with the Chevy Performance cam. If your Vortecs have already been modified for more lift, go with the CompCams piece. Rumor has it that Vortecs run out of breath around 5500rpm.
