dana 30 axle in my 71 monte

what info can i get and why did it come with this odd rearend it has 3:31 open gears this monte is a 454 car and i thought that they all came with a 12bolt car rear axle why a 10 bolt dana 30 insted is it better or what  

I would've thought it'd come factory with a 12bolt too.

Maybe you can find an early Monte expert at the National Monte Carlo club.

If it came with the 454 it had a 12 Bolt.

if it came with a 350 it had a 10 bolt 8.5" rear.

The Dana 30 is an aftermarket redo.

denver.. this is a DANA 30 rear cover.. it has 10 bolts just like the 10 bolt chevy rear end your car might have... it could have a 12 bolt rear end also..

as i recall the dana 30 may not be as strong .. but almost anything is possible..

some people use what they have at hand..

this top image is a dana 30 rear cover..    can you get the stamping numbers off the right axle tube.. or the numbers off the tag on the rear axle and post them as you find them..




this is a CHEVY 10 bolt rear cover...



there are several versions...




there are also BOP 10 bolt rear ends... Buick Olds Pontiac...

 

thank guys it is a dana  30 with the right ears on it i found numbers on it it came out of a 71 chevelle with a 6 cly from mexico makes alot of sence now the must of broke the 12 and found that thing  

yep... strange stuff happens down there..

like the 59 eldorado biarritz convertible in mexico... on a F250 2 wheel drive frame..   twin i beams under the front..   that was one way to take care of the pesky air bag suspension that came on those..
