I Just purchased a 70 Chevelle SS LS6 with a new 454 450 HP motor that has no headers. I don't want to take away from what it has (HP and torque) but want to install the best option for headers to add to what it already has (tested low-end, mid, & high-end, size (diameter) and length of headers), plus the preferred brand and type (material - ceramic, stainless, etc.)? I would appreciate advice and experience to help in my decision. This is for street. Glenn

You don't want to choke the engine off either. Hooker Super Competition headers. 1.7/8" to 1.3/4" will be a good street header. (A 2" pipe would be too big for the street). Install a H pipe or X pipe to help bottom end torque. I don't know what your budget is so a ceramic coating will extend the life of the street header. Just make sure to whatever headers you order they will fit your application. i.e. angle plug heads, A/C those type questions.

Thanks! Upon checking - it looks lie the x pipe is the better way to go according to: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/exhaust_system_installation
