Anything is better than the 2.3L 90HP Auto crap!

I am looking for cheap and cheerful with way more power than 90HP

I am looking for cheapness and ease of installation.

LS1 2.3 turbo 5.0 conversion?

there is no such thing as a cheep swap really...  it's still going to cost what that car is worth..

finding a 302/5.0 with a C4 transmission is going to be the least expensive swap

the 302 has a different balanced damper and flywheel than the 5.0   even thou they look the same..

its going to be easier to find a faster car...  or buy a complete second to get the drivetrain, electrical harnesses... exhaust.. cooling,, fuel system from..

you could also go the turbo direction and use a 87/88 2.3 intercooled turbo from a Tbird..

the 5 speed versions were limited to 143MPH.. the automatic units were limited to 120MPH..

my former boss had an 87 turbo coupe 5 speed...  he let it all out on the freeway late one night..  had just gotten the speedo to the 140 mark when he flew past a CHP car...  he backed out of the throttle and coasted to the side when he saw the blue and red lights come on..  eventually the CHP caught up... ask.. why did you pull over. i never would have caught you..  the chp was interested in what was under the hood.. when he showed him the 4 banger.. with a turbo that would out run the CHP police interceptor.. he let him off with a warning..   my boss always kept fresh Z rated tires on that car..  don't try that with anything less than Z rated...

you could also pick up one of the 87/88 turbo coupes cheep as the antilock brake systems are kinda falling apart and they are really really expensive to fix.. but easily replaced by car crafters.. as that car also came with vacuum boosted brakes ...

if you want good gas mileage, the turbocoupe route will be the best. find a donor car take the computer and entire engine harness. even the disbrake rear will fit(3/4") wider that a mustang. the front brakes too(unbolt entire brake assembly from lower control arms. the t-bird is a FOX car=mustang,fairmount,t-bird/cougar,LTD 2,mark7 all have parts we can use. even use the 16" turbocoupe wheels. where are you located? I'm pulling my 2.3 turbo/automatic in the spring for a 351w swap.
