12 yrs ago Car craft did a big block build up on all the popular big inch mills, I liked those articles very much. They need to do another one, maybe build up the late 70s engines like the ford 400m, olds 403, sbc 400, mopar 400, pontiac 400, & include amc 401.I'd like to see them w/ aluminum heads, roller cams (no exotic stuff),single 4bbl. carbs, & a realistic compression ratio. What do you guys think of it?
I remember that issue. i also have the high torque build up issue from hot rod 15 years ago. it had the ford 400M, caddy 502, dodge 400 and a pontiac 455? i would like to see that idea or a EFI conversion to these smog blocks. i can let you guys build my ford 400 for it? V.H.Y
Needs EFI so it can remote start with the air/heat on!
putting EFI on almost anything is a day or two if you have everything around job..there are bolt on throttle body systems that are self tuning..going low buck.. use the Throttle body system off gm cars.. you can get them for the 1.8, 2.5, 2.8, 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, and 454 motors.. these systems only need a magnetic pickup coil signal to control the ignition module .. so you could use a ford duraspark or a chrysler electronic distributor to run them also.. MSD sells distributors with the ford design pickup coil to fit many many motors.. so you have a distributor to drop in.. http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/1112or-adding-fuel-injection/you will also want to read up on stuff from jags that run .. they cover this swap..only thing.. you have to have an oxygen sensor.. so the system can self tune during closed loop.. and select a computer or just the PROM chip thats close to your engine size for the hard programming during open loop operation..
