I am looking at an '86 supposed to be 350/700R4 swap into my '83 Malibu wagon. What all am I gonna have to get to convert it over to a carb? Fuel injection is later in the future when I can afford it. I just have to get it back on the road for now.

Not much to do to that retro fit. If the 700R4 came out of a station wagon you may 1have to find a shorter driveshaft.
1. Driveshaft 2. Crossmember for trans may have to modify yours. 3. Maybe V-8 front springs 4. HD Cooling 5. Motor Mounts, but they came with 305 in them so that shouldn't be a problem. 6. A/C hook-Ups? Modifacations like this are relativly easy, they came with a V-8in them. Most of it should be straight forward. You just have to measure and remeasure things as you go along.Ask questions! Thanks Bob

I already know about the Crossmember, headers and exhaust. A/C isn't that big of deal right now. I'm replacing a 305/350 combo so the springs and mounts aren't the issue. I'm just not sure about what I'm gonna need as far as carb/intake and ignition. I'll probably have the driveshaft cut down and rebalanced since the 700 is longer than the 350. This is my Daily Driver so it has to be as simple as it can be. Later on I plan to convert to an aftermarket EFI. Then I'll start worrying about the tank. Not sure if it's baffled or not. I'm trying to make this as reliable as possible and do it right the first time. Tired of having to Redneck Engineer everything. Most of what I will be getting is coming from Summit and they have been great at answering my questions but, you know they want to sell you something so I always ask other places too. As for what's on the 305 in the car now, nothing will be transferred except the A/C set up. Just not hooked up until I get the money to upgrade. Funny how cash always comes into play.
