Hey guys, got a new project and need some help from the experts. Picked up an 89 Firebird Formula a couple weeks ago and it needs some work (of course). My first task is to get the pop-up headlights functioning again. What I need is the plastic (or nylon, or whatever they are) bushings that go between the large gear and the shaft that comes out of the motor assembly. I can't find them anywhere. I could replace the motor assembly but there's nothing else wrong with them and I'm hoping it would be far more cost effective to replace the bushings if I could find some. I had the thought to try to make some by cutting pieces of vacuum line and the fabricator next door suggested wooden dowel. Anybody see any problems with either idea? Above all else I want to fix it right and I know the best place to start when you need help is right here at Car Craft.

there is an article on this exact subject over at corvette fever...
here is the direct link
http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/33098/index.html
it gives part numbers at the bottom of the article... but that number seems wrong for some reason..
i did find the motormight/dorman 74410 for the ford window regulators.. a very similar part but the ford versions are solid..
i will look around .. see whats up with the part number....

Thanks Wayne for the pointer. Good helpful article on how to do the job. I had seen the ford parts too but they won't work. They're the wrong size. I did find a kit that will do both headlights at www.hawksthirdgenparts.com for only $25.50.
