I bought a 1989 Chevy Cheyenne last year the guy that i bought it from told me it has a 305 from an ElCamino with 60,000-80,000miles on it last smog report from him showed 72,011miles on it but no reference to the type of engine so i took his word on it. (odo. reads 130,000)Ive put around 10,000 on it sence then. I'm thinking about puting some time (new comer to working on vehicals)and work into it so I am thinking what am I looking at sence the engine is out of a ElCamino into a 1989 Chevy. I'm not looking for Mid range speed and but take off strong. I'm basically asking you all your appinion on what i can do. So what can i do with it...

Welcome aboard WreckedHornet:
First off you need to get some numbers off the engine, Looking at the engine from the front of the truck. On your left behind the alternator is the engine code number. The second number that will determine if it's a 305 or ? is located on the R/Rear on the engine block. Get us those numbers, and a little of what you want to do.
I can tell you now if that engine is a 305 and has a 140,00 miles on it its done. Find a 350 for your project. You will never get the power out of a 305....
