hey all!I'm new to car repairs (and cars in general for that matter) and I'm wondering how much the rebuild on my dream car (my dad's old '72 AMC Javelin AMX). I've tried to look at prices online, however I can't seem to find a very good estimate for how much it would cost until I came across this website, namely this post here:http://www.carcraft.com/featuredvehicles/ccrp_0411_1972_amc_javelin_amx/viewall.htmlWonderful as it may be, it seems as though he built the car himself. Even though I'd love to do that I don't think I have the time or know-how to get it done properly.I'm just wondering how much it would cost to get it to run, as its in rough shape right now. Its been sitting in my uncles back yard for ~25-26 years now, in a cold climate. It was running perfectly fine when it was parked, however I know there will be lots of repairs to do (namely tires, hoses/gaskets, brakes etc...) I don't know the state of the engine, however I'm just assuming it will need a total rebuild. The same would go with the transmission. The body is in excellent condition, with only a mild dent in the front right corner by the bumper (which has been taken off and stored in a garage along with the mirrors and other outside fixtures). Now assuming the worst has happened to the car, I'm just curious as to an estimate for the price of getting the car running and usable. From the website it looks as though the parts themselves for most of the things it would need would be no more than $10,000, although I would need to pay the price for the work as well. Even though I'm not going to be replacing as many parts as he did in the linked example, would I still expect to pay as much to have someone else get it going for me? Or is my dream, that it will only take $6-8,000 to keep the car alive, ridiculous? Thanks for all your help. I know the car is in rough shape, but I would prefer to restore it if its within a reasonable cost.
