Here's a question what is a 3/4 cam? I'm thinking it's probably from the early fifties and has to do with flat heads.  I couldn't sleep last night and this question got in my head.  Thanks for your support

Ed told me he first made only two masters, a SEMI RACE GRIND and a FULL RACE GRIND! He later made a third master that was more duration and lift than the SEMI but less than the FULL. He then used the FULL RACE master as an intake and the new master as an exhaust.
He called this new reground camshaft a THREE QUARTER RACE CAM! Ed said "It was three quarters of the way to a full race cam".

+1 Pman,,,

Vega,,, you have to keep in mind that this 3/4 race stuff goes back 60+ years when hot rodding began, with flathead Ford engines, Cad LaSalle and Lincoln Zephyr transmissions,,, the hot tip for rear ends was a Halibrand quick change.
AAAAAAHHHH, yes,,, we've come a long way, since then.

I used to hear it all the time in the late 80's and early 90's when every jerk had a three fiddy with a 3/4 cam pulling 4 and a quater horse. Balanced and blue printed of course.

Or the one that always got me was the factory put an over sized motor in by mistake or the motor was right but for some reason it was magicaly way more powerful.  Like some worker snuck it form the line and took to his seceret shop where he ported the heads and intake, changed the cam,  set the carb and recurved the ignition.  Than snuck it back in to the factory.  Giggling all the way

I always thought a 3/4 cam refered to the duration being 270 degrees as 270 is 3/4 of 360!

The Isky Max-1 is the original "3/4 race" cam grind. It is the best camshaft we have found for a majority of Flathead V8-powered street rods.
