I have a 67 OLDS with a 330 and have a head problem. The #4 heads were removed and replaced with #2 heads years ago. Now I have a problem with the pushrods rubbing the bottom of the head, on the top side of the whole through the head, and wearing the push rods. I have asked many people but have not found a reason for why this is happening if these heads will not work on this engine or the rockers should be different. The #2 heads should be interchangable with the #4 heads. I have checked the numbers on the head with Oldsmobile and these are Olds heads.

Has anyone heard of this problem; does anyone have any suggestions.I am trying to find the #4 original heads but they are very hard to find.

Is there anything you can tell me.

I appreciate your help.

Yes - lifter angle was changed after '65. I don't have my cheat book so I don't remember which way it went either. Literally the fix is to boar the push rod holes in the heads to a larger size. A pain in the butt to do, but if the heads are rebuilt and sound all other ways, a machine shop could do it for a decent price probably. I wouldn't advise doing it while they are on the engine for obvious reasons. If you compare the later heads with the earlier ones, the earlier ones will have holes that are smaller and bored at a slightly different angle. Hope this helps.  Bowser

the olds 330 used a 45 degree lifter angle up until '67, '67 was the last year for the 330 and they switched it up to the 39 degree lifter angle and .921 diameter lifters, number 2 heads where are from '65,  you have a 39 degree block with 45 degree heads. you could pull off the heads and use a die grinder to relieve those spots or drill them out to a bigger size, if you drill them out please use a drill press or a mill, or just get the right heads, 350 heads will be fine, use heads #4-7, #8 has 80cc chambers
