I INSTALLED A RAMJET 350 INTO A 1969 GMC TRUCK. RAN FINE FOR A WHILE, THEN ONE DAY IT WOULDN'T SHUT OFF WHEN I TURNED THE KEY OFF. THE IGNITION SYSTEM, FUEL PUMP, EVERYTHING STAYS HOT UNLESS I REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE. REPLACED THE IGN SWITCH AND THE STARTER; DIDN'T HELP. A car craft magazine article (Feb. 2009) entitled "Installing The GM Ramjet 350" noted the same problem, however i couldn't find the link to the remedy. I'd really like to drive the truck, please help!!

jhoman have you tried the tech line at GM for crate engine installations, they might have relitive information. The other thing maybee reverse engineer the electronics problem, get a wire diagram for your ignition, check all hook ups are correct on the starter solinoid. Then turn ignition on, do NOT start & check to see which wires are hot that sould NOT be. Did the RamJet 350 come with any instructions or was it a second hand purchase? Try GOOGLE search for the fix. 3836bbl/Budnicks

Sounds like you are getting feedback from either your alternator/charging system. Aparently a Mopar 4 wire ballast resistor fixes this, or a diode spliced into the field wire on your alternator. The Summit tech line may have a solution for your problem, because I've heard of it before, but never experienced it.

there is a diode you can install in the wiring harness that hooks to the side of the alternator...
which alternator got installed.. the 1969 alternator.. or the one with the ramjet.. with the 4 wire alternator plug.. maybe only a few wires to it... wait.. the 69 would have an external regulator...
the other thing... which starter wiring did you install..
the right side of the starter solenoid is the "S" terminal... that gets the thicker purple wire from the crank position on the ignition switch...
but the wire that counts.. is the smaller wire that went to the left side of the starter relay.. "R" terminal... this wire is the resistor bypass wire...
i have found more than one time.. that this bypass wire has shorted to the top post on the starter solenoid... sending full time power to the positive side of the coil.. ...
stick a test light into the positive side of the coil wire.. .
key off.. no power..
key on power..
key cranking .. power..
key off.. no power..
you can tell if the alternator is going to be the problem.. by UNPLUGGING the alternator... the PLUG.. NOT the bolt on wire on the back...
if the engine still will not shut off when the alternator is unplugged.. its probably the old bypass wire...
one thing... is your ignition key on the column... or the dash board...
if its on the dash board.. you might want to replace the electrical half of the ignition switch... the point type ignition switches would break the connection to the ign 1 circuit when the key is in the cranking position. this is to prevent backfeeding through the system....
the later switches mounted in the dash are designed for the HEI and do not break the ign 1 connection when the key is in the cranking position.. this should allow you to remove the bypass wire completely...
test the circuit with a test light...
post more info .. on which alternator you installed.. 2 flat terminals on the side.. or 4 small terminals..
and the 69 had an external voltage regulator... i am taking that you worked on this circuit also...
