Hey Guys,

I'm seeking your wisdom.  I'm planning out a 383 build for a 1981 GMC 3/4 ton pickup.  The pickup will see street time and medium duty off road use.  I'm stuck on what to pick for a cam.  I'm looking for something with a good performance and a decent idle.

Below is my build plan.  Any thoughts, suggestions, or criticisms you have are welcome.

Cast Scat crank
5.7 inch rods (probably from Scat)
Speed-Pro hypereutectic pistons
GMPP Vortec iron heads
GMPP Hydraulic roller LT4 Hot cam
Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake
Holley 750 CFM double pumper

What I am missing or overlooking?

Thanks in advance!

sounds familiar to what ive got.

350 2 bolt block stroked to 3.75
eagle rotating assembly
speed pro hypereutectic pistons
comp cams thumpr flat-tappet cam
pro-comp aluminum vortec heads
moroso pan/pump
professional products intake
quadrajet carb

setup works great on my 72 chevy k10. you can really feel the extra cubes when you mash the gas. (sounds great through an x-pipe and flowmasters too)

if you like, you can see some pictures and a video of the engine at www.myspace.com/ridinskyhigh86

good luck in your build!

Hi there,
A Barry Grant 725 Road Demon would be nice
for that very realistic combo. Good luck...Skyeking

I have a 76 Chevy Stepside... I had a 383 very similar, except I had a Comp XE284 Cam, Dart Pro1 200cc Heads, Air gap, 750 Demon, (NOT too Big for a 383)
I have 3.73 Gears... What gears do you have? and what Converter?
How high do you plan on spinning it?
I would say use a Comp XE 4x4 Cam designed for a 4x4... either a  X4258HR or X4260HR
