i'm not a ford man either...but i do know that ALL boss 429's were sent out to have the shock towers moved out so the wide heads could/would fit into the engine compartment...boss 302's, from what i've heard had cleveland heads on the 302 blocks...i don't know if the shock tower surgury was necessary for those cars
without something to compare it to (like a non boss car),... the dimensions between shock towers would be a good indicator, unless there is some kind of cowl tag to decode

they made boss 302s in that year... and they also made boss 351s a few years later...
there are vin numbers stamped in the left front inner fender... google those numbers.. it will probably tell you what the car is...
boss mustangs came with several things that are different.. but it varied by what was ordered...
look at the sides of the engine block... if there are screw in pipe plugs instead of freeze plugs.. you might just have found a boss motor.. if it is in a boss chassis..???
there are several ford magazines on this site...

The insurance premium . . .
Seriously, "The V.I.N. should have the letter "G" in the fifth position. Example: 0F02G123456. "G" is the code letter for the BOSS 302 engine. If there is no "G", then, plain and simple, it's not a BOSS 302 even if the car has the stripes, louvers, spoilers, etc."
http://www.boss302.com/buying.htm
Boss 302s and Boss 429s were only sold in 1969 and 1970 models. Boss 351s were only offered in 1971 models. If it's something other than that, it's not a real "Boss" and more like the "Boss" in Dilbert . . . .
