So my saga continues... I have done all the checks from the whole CAR KEEPS RUNNING. Post and all was well for 2 days. Then the kid comes home and the car won't turn off and the key is locked in and in the accessory position.  I took the steering colum apart, pulled the key cylinder, the ignition switch and checked everything. Here's what I found... The cable  that comes from the gear select(neutral safty??) plugs into the back of the ignition actuator(between the cylinder and the ignition switch) has a pin that presses against a cam in the actuator. The Cam rotates with the key cylinder. The pin is pressed by a sliding lever controlled by a cable. It seems the cable isn't pulling the lever back far enough to allow to allow the pin to drop enough to allow the cam to return to the off/lock position. I can't see any unusual wear on any of these parts. Any suggestions?? is there an adjustment I can make? Or.... should I just set the thing on fire for my own satisfaction
Thanks.

i am not sure.. but i think the cable into the ignition switch is from the gear shifter...  to prevent anybody from being able to totally turn the key to the LOCK position when the car is in gear...

oh.. by the way for the other readers... his car is a 96 chrysler sebring.. with a 2.5....

it really helps when you post a question out blue referring to another post.. if you post the year, make , model and engine size..

autozone.com  has a bunch of free repair info on this car...  you do have to join and long in .. but its free...

sounds like the shift interlock system. check the shifter end of the cable. don`t think ther is any adjustment, but you may see it is unhooked or a bracket bent. very common for soda to be spilled into the shifter assembly,it becomes sticky then the problems begin.
good luck.
