ive seen some retarded things in a 383 build, i know of someones engine that the counter weights didnt clear the block, so instead of putting the block in a mill or using a die grinder, he took a grinder to the counter weights, and didnt balance the crank, then used stock 400 rods with 350 pistons, made about 275hp on the chasis dyno with a hydraulic roller cam, o and a set of ported 882's, that engine was worthless. the bearings look like poo (showing copper) after maybe 1,000 miles. can you say RETARDED!!!

you can get a good deal on aftermarket rebuild kits that have it all. choose which one you want and is good with the heads you want and makes the power out put you need on a dirt track.

if the motor will spend a lot of time at high rpm i would have it internally balanced and use the 6" rods for less side loading

motor needs to be bored .030 and clearanced around the pan rails for the bigger 3.75 stroke.balancing should be done either by a shop or buy an aftermarket internally balanced stroker crank.then the rotating assembly must also be balanced regardless of what type of crank(external or internal).get some goood heads or make sure the ones you have are up to the task you can use all top of the line parts and if your heads suck you wont make *** for power

ya that all has to be done regardless of if the crank is an internally or externally balanced. All the diff is with an internally balanced crank you can use a nuetral balance damper and flexplate like on a 350,if the crank is externally balanced youll need a weighted flexplate amd damper like on a 400sb.the internally balanced cranks are better especially for high rpm.my crank is extenally balanced but its a street motor and only sees 6000rpm here and there.
