Other than checking a 66 GTO, Chevelle, Etc... on the underside, floors and trunk and quarters. You also need to check around the rear glass area, top sides and bottom, also check the roof at the truck area near the bottom of the sail panels where the top meets the trunk. You may even want to lay inside the trunk and look at this area, for repairs. These vehicle were good for rust here.
Hope this helps?

Ya hopefully it is a true GTO and not a lemans that was made to look like the GTO.

even if its a tempest ... its the right shape for style...
the only major difference between a gto, le mans, and tempest is the grills and front turn signal location and the tail lights...
at this point in my life.. i would even dig a 66 lemans wagon.. i might want to modify it into a 2 door wagon.. using coupe front doors... maybe even thinking about looking at whats left of the rear door so they open reverse like the new trucks.. and a few cars.... short door with reversed hinges...
here right.... here is a link to a 66 gto vin decoder...

For 3700 bucks these days, doesn't matter which it is. Running and not rotten? It's a steal!!!!! Parts are plentiful. Many aftermarket parts makers of OEM style parts for GTOs. Not to mention all the performance parts! Tell your friend. Have Fun!!!!

thats a good deal. my dad bought our 67 gto convertible for 150 bucks in 1972 out of a junkyard. deal? i think so. on the wagon thing i always wanted to get like a 67 el camino and lemans wagon and swap the parts. i saw a 66 with a gto front end. looked real nice
