Hi all. I'm new to this forum and have a few questions. Is any body running a a comp cams 294H (12-254-3) ? I bought one and i think the cam maybe a little to big for my application now. Its not like i didn't take the time to reserch the cam a little. even on the comp cams website thier dyno sheet is almost 100% the same as mine exept for the 1 3/4 headers. Mine are have 1 5/8. http://www.compcams.com/technical/Dy...94H-10_001.aspI feel like my setup is making more like 325HP not even close to what it should be. what did i do wrong?any way i was expecting my 1980 camaro to run low to mid 12's and the best i got was 13.14 @103 mph.here is my setupWORLD PRODUCTS FULLY PORTED SPORTMAN II MANLEY SERVERE DUTY VALVES 2.02 X 1.6 (STOCK LENGTH)VICTOR JR (FULLY PORTED)MAGNUM 1.6 ROLLER ROCKERSSTOCK BOTTOM END WITH 9:1 TO 9:5 COMPRESSIONHOLLEY 750 DOMINATER (MAYBE A LITTLE TO BIG)COMP CAMS 294H (12-254-3)TURBO 400 W/TRANS BRAKE B&M HOLE SHOT 3000 ( LEAVING AT 3400 ON THE BRAKE) I know wrong converter for a brake.4:10 gears28" MICKY DRAG RADIALSCALTRACS MSD 6AL-2 W/ PRO BILLET DIST.car wieghs 3690 with me in it and 3450 empty. any help or advise will be greatly appeciated. The cam is a little big for the 9:1CR but I think most of the problem is in the intake try a good dual plane like the edelbrock rpm air gap.
Professional hi-performance engine builderHorsepower sells Engines and torque wins races.
I think the combination of too much cam, too much intake and too much carb all compiled onto one another are costing you some power. Look at the RPM air gap, go to a 1.5 rocker, and maybe a smaller carb.Or you could look the other direction and think about more compression more converter and the 1 3/4 headers. Are your heads the 64cc or the 72cc version? The cam you have is really going to like more compression and more converter something around 3800-4000 and pull until around 7000. Your cam intake and carb choices should work pretty well together, but the converter headers and compression are keeping you from reaching your full potential.
you have it set up like it lives above 6000rpm. torque is what you want street light to street light.victors dont make much more power under 6000rpms and the cam is to big. what size head gaskets do you have?
good morning guys. thanks for the info.for pontiacman: i just switched the in take to a RPM PERFORMER with the center milled out. it should perform pretty close to the RPM AIR GAP now according to this video i found. check it outhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ART4SBmdgFor SMOKESHOW: I'm running the 64cc version and i just got my new set of full 1.5 roller rockers in yesterday already changed the intake and currently rebuilding a reguler 4150 holley 750 (HLY-0-4779C). And my new 4000 stall converter should be here by fri. For 69nova355.1: I just switched over to a FELPRO 1205 becuase thats what my heads are ported to. The ported victor jr i just took off was ported to a 1206 .so thats what i was using. the intake ports were bigger than the the ports on my head. That was probly hurting me too. OOPS SORRY you said head gaskets sorry. FELPRO 1094'S .015 compressed
make sure you let us know how it works out. and good luck.
Thanks . will do. i got till the 2nd week in nov. to get down to the track (weather permiting). I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Hey guys..what do you think about these? will they help my timing problem?http://4secondsflat.com/MSD%20Distributor%20Tuning.htm
Just an update. When i went to the track i broke the rear end on the first pass.I broke the all the tube welds and spun the pumpkin on 11/1/09. That was a week ago. Everything below was this sat. 11/7/09well i said i'd keep you guys posted. Well the 10 bolt that i broke could not be fixed. That thing would not move at all. so on to craigslist i went despratly trying to find a rear end. i found a 10 bolt with moser axles and 3.73 gears and a mini spool for $300. yes the tubes are welded this time. it sucks that im going from 4.10 gear to 3.73 though. But any way. i went to the track to try and win that bet. My first run was a 12.712 @104.21mph (60ft 1.754) shifting at like 6300i went slower when i tried to shift at 6500 12.802(60ft 1.885) @104.66 (but red lighted too (with a -.090 light trying to stall the car higher on the foot brake.shifting at 6100 i ran 12.693 (60ft 1.721) at 104.46 mph (foot brake)shifting at 6000 i ran 12.639 (60ft 1.696) at(104.76 mph (foot brake)shifting at 5800 or 5900 (not sure) ran 12.632 (60ft 1.691) @104.56 (with trans brake) i did not move the timing at all. i left it at 36-37 total and the stock jets on the dominator which are (75/75) front and back.what do you think guys....think she has a little more somwhere?? what should i mess with now? timing? jets? gear?i did feel that car would stumble a bit when i used the trans brake.I think the car misses the 4.10 gear it had.it would take off really good with the foot brake. didn't even have to stall it.i would just stall it a to like 1300-1500 then nail it and the car would jump rite out with no bog whatsoever.I just want to thank all you guys for for all your help.Couldn't have don it with out you. and I WON THE BET!!! I can have a peacefull winter now.__________________http://s901.photobucket.com/albums/ac220/lazr_guira/
Hows the car set-up? It may be time to work on your suspension.
luck is when skill and opportunity meet
