I have an 88 Monte SS with the stock 305/200 combo, and am not sure what to do with it.  I fell in love with the Chevy 572 engine, and have read about Art Carr's 1,000 HP+ 200 transmission conversions.  Does anyone know about the combination of these two, whether the two are a good mate, if someone's done it before or not, or if it's a bad idea?  Also, what rear-end would handle higher horsepower?  I'm pretty sure my stock differential's gotta go, right?  I'm a late bloomer as far as the car world goes, so I don't have a lot of technical information in my brain.  I'm an aircraft mechanic, and have fallen in love with all things mechanical.  I would love for my Monte to destroy all these goofy tuners on the road, but I just need a little direction.  Thanks for any and all help!

i hate goofy tuners. that 2004r on that 572 would kick ass with the overdrive. you must have alot of money to buy that 572, that would look sweet in your monte. yeah your 7.5 rear end would not last more than one hard launch with that 572. if you have the money go with an aftermarket moser 12bolt with some 4.10s or 3.73 gears, i would go with the 4.10s cuz you would have the overdrive.
