i have to say that im more impressed with a 10 second car with iron heads then i am with aluminum heads, why, cuz the guy with iron heads knows what hes doing, or knows someone that does.
and yes we all look at our gauges, i glance at mine all the time cruising down the road, but on the drag strip or a roundy roundy track, how many times does someone check the gauges, you dont have time to take your eyes off the track or your in the wall, thats why i have a huge red light on the dash of my enduro car for low oil pressure.

i understand and agree with oldsfreak, but... when a guy doesn't know how to port heads or know someone that does (knowing someone that does is different than knowing someone that does well enough to barter the work) and has to pay for the work, like me, then it is purely an economic stand point, for the same money to make my 882 smog heads flow (or simulate flow)(or purchase better flowing iron to port) i could have a set of aluminum heads that saves weight as well...sure there are iron heads that flow as well, now, but i bought mine 15 years ago, the sr torquers were a new item then...if i had to buy a new set of heads today i'd probably get a set of iron vortecs and would be comparing the cost of them (and the required machining costs required to run a higher lift cam) to the edelbrock aluminum equvalents

I'm not saying aluminum heads are bad!!!!
Just pointing out the downfalls of them.
Anyone that hasn't been bitten yet? Be Vewy carfwow, your time is getting closer. I have a feeling we will be seeing a few of you changing your minds. And some, like me, you just can't change?

yes vortec heads are cheap, but they flow like poo, 233cfm at .500 and .600 lift, i have flowed a set of 062s, i would buy a set of RHS or procomps, but procomps stop flowing at .450 i believe without some port cleanup, after some decent cleanup work in the runner and the bowl and a decent valve job, they flow pretty good for the price

i have the aluminum vortec fastburns and have the 2.00/1.55 replaced with 2.02/1.60's with 1.6 rollers 488-490 corrected to 520-522 which is all pretty mild and they kick some serious ass.i read an article were a very similar 383 made 497hp with the smaller valves
