It really is sad whats happening these days. i have to admit it but i think i was born 50 to 60 years late. the goverment and many americans seem to want to destroy american built stuff. you cant really call the new cars american. the new malibu? ha the malibu used to be a nice intermidiate car. the new one? pice of crap *** box. they think smaller cars are going to save us. well people dont change there size so the cars shouldnt. i had to drive a saturn the other day and couldnt believe how small it was. i thought my fiero was cramped. cash for clunkers desroying american cars, shutting down of pontiac, these are truely sad times

mindless tv using senseless demolition of (hopefully well used) cars that some would love to have in any shape BEFORE this idiot-for-contestant filled space-filler program
the contestants don't even know how tighten their helmets or even easier task of pulling the harnesses tight
and worst of all, they think they are going fast
the only thing that would make this show interesting would be to see dale jr., the crybaby rusty walace, the waltrip brothers, danica, and a few others compete against each other...do ya think jeremy mayfield could get into the field or is there a drug test prior to competition

Agreed. I could feel the brain cells dying as I suffered through watching part of it last week.
Too bad they don't use ricey FWD import heaps for the carnage (Of course they wouldn't hold up to the punishment like a Police Interceptor/Crown Victoria will)

Now isn't that the truth. It is all about making money and not quality.

pontiacman has the idea...
once the manufacturers (and every other industry too) sell the consumers on the idea of regularly upgrading, the product (any product) doesn't have to last as long as once expected...
at one time, americans expected quality at a fair price and the product was going to last for a few years (life expectancy variable depending upon product in question), today peopel want to buy a new car every three to four years because they are afraid that the vehicle will suffer a major break down the minute it turns five...computers and cell phones are good examples of products that the manufacturers want consumers to replace every couple of years...why? PROFIT the more units sold, the better the return on the research & development investment...it's all about business economics and market share...they may tell you to reduce, reuse, and recycle, but what they really want you to do is buy, buy, buy

that's the same reason i go to NAPA instead of the two major national chains that are in town, parts with a one year warranty go bad in 13 months...i don't mind replacing bad parts but replacing parts designed to go bad, that's BS...you listening manny, moe, or jack...the peeps at the zone aren't in the zone...more like zoned...they give the impression that they are the mechanics, i'm the one that diagnosed it, took it apart, and know what is tore down sitting in the driveway, i didn't ask for mechanical advice from the parts-man, i asked for parts

81elc: thats because forign countrys cant figure out how to build a good car. now a days it seems like america cant even anymore. miss body on frame, rwd, v8 cars
What really surprises me is how big and heavy some of the unit-body FWD/AWD cars are.
For example, Ford is ramming the Volvo-based Taurus and Lincoln something-or-other (meaningless initials) down our throats in place of the full-framed RWD Panthers. And the "FordVos" weigh as much as the Panthers! And they won't accept any of the FWD-compromised Modular V8s!
MASSIVE FAIL in my opinion.
Yet Ford has let the Panthers rot for the past ten years (the last major development of the chassis was for the under-powered, overpriced, late-to-market 2003-04 Mercury Marauder. That being said, the 2003-up Panther chassis is possibly the best live axle suspension ever installed in an American production car -- light years ahead of the Chevelle stuff we read about in CC).
A lot of "Panther starvation" and the infautuation with FWD is driven by Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations, which artificially limit the number of large cars and V8s that can be sold.
But much of it is simply OEM bean-counter/"appliance motorist" culture. The bean-counters and the corporate bureaucrats don't care that a substantial segment of the market doesn't want FWD and wants V8s (even if they have to be smaller than current V8s). And they don't care that not every RWD V8 buyer can live with a smallish pony car. Instead, they're all trying to outdo Toyota on a shoestring and save every penny they can.
As for the "Crash Course" TV show: it's silly and flyblown, for sure.
