Easy Serpentine Set-Up???

I'm tired of the crank/water pump/alternator belt squeeling and would like to convert my '64 Corvette to a simple serpentine set-up.  I know that Car Craft Magazine outlines this project in this month's issue, but my camel-hump heads do not have accessory holes to mount the brackets.  (No, I will not change heads.)

Our set-up uses the short water pump and the alternator is mounted on a typical driver's-side header-mount with a curved arm attached to the water pump for tension adjustment.

I note that March makes such a set-up (at >$200), but even theirs appear to include brackets and only comes in non-descript "performance ratios" whereas I am satisfied with the standard ratios.

Can't I just replace the three pullies with serpentine pulleys and run a shorter serpentine belt exactly as the current belt is run still using the alternator as the tensioner?

If anyone has done this, where did you find the pullies and are they similar to the standard ratios?

Any other ideas?  I know someone makes a 1-1/2"-wide Gilmer belt set-up for crank/water pump/alternator, but think that it may be a bit pretentious on a street car.

Thanks

I've seen cars with the pullies replaced with the serpentine pullies and use the alternator tensioner as you are thinking about.  I am not sure how much stretch the serpentine belts have considering they have spring tensioners on them.  I'm thinking worse case is you'd have to adjust the belt semi-regularly.  There could be a slight issue with belt alignment, but I've seen it done.

I've decided to go with the Millerspeed 1" Gilmer belt system instead. It should be ready to pick up next week.

Hey CC want to do before/after rear wheel dyno testing?
