i can't quote numbers but i know a guy that runs a 74 caprice with full interior, stock frame, full bumpers and runs high 6's in the 1/8 using a stock 10 bolt with an aluminum cover with bearing braces

it's a small block, automatic, and 10" tire combo

i'm no expert, but i'm going to go out on a limb and say that as long as you/he doesn't do burnouts at every stop sign and while going around corners, and don't do any neutral drops, it'll probably live until it can be upgraded...like c-clip eliminators, more axle splines, stronger axles

the lighter the car the longer the rearend will live with the higher output

i'm sure you'll get a better answer in a day or two

68scott385 has the right ideas.  Probably will be tough to kill ever with street tires.  Putting on some slicks or Drag Radials.....  I'm in that ball park and unsure of the limits too.  I have a ~450Hp, Buick 455, with a 5-speed, 8.5" with 3.70 gears.

What 10 bolt rear do you have 7.5, 7.625, 8.2 or 8.5.
A friend of mine has a grand national with 8.5 10 bolt and has 600HP at the crank.

I have an 8.5 with 3.42's under my Caprice wagon and I beat it daily with 400hp doing burnouts and donuts, ect. The only thing I have to complain about is I go thru pinion bearings about every 50k miles. Oh ya and Don't get a lunchbox locker, they don't last very long.
`

It may not be the fastest or prettiest, but i can pretend

68scott385:
hey SilverBuick, have you gotten a posi unit since that video?

I have replaced that whole rear end and engine since that video I pulled some 12" rotors (and spindles)for the front and a rear 8.5" 10-bolt with 10" vented discs off a '77 Cadillac Seville, they bolted right on.  I replaced the 2.56 gears with some richmond 3.70's and a factory positraction (with the S-spring).  I'm using the stock caddy axles.  I have done a few burnout's like the video, but have yet to film any of them.  The engine from the video is a ~320Hp 455, now the car is sporting 1.5 points more compression, a bit bigger cam, bigger valves, a performer intake and headers along with true dual 2.5" exhaust (as opposed to a single 2" glass packed one in the video). I'll be EFI'ing it shortly, but for now I've just been enjoying driving it

This is the video in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_CCLSwdLhU
