I am 16, and I just bought my first car! It is a 1995 Mercury Cougar, with 100k miles, but it runs very well. I have a job, and I was wondering about a few things for my future.

I have huge plans for my car, but I don't want to fix up my car, and treat it like a classic in 25 years, if it just one of those cars that gets forgotten as time goes by.

My car is currently a 4.6L V8, 4 speed automatic, I want to make it into a 5 speed standard, super-charge it, give it sport heads, and give it a full body make-over.

Do they make cougar body kits? Or do they have to be special order'd?

I have no clue about cars, especially Cougars, please someone give me some insight on how I can make my car the fastest, coolest, car that it can be!

**** UPDATE **** My car's oil pressure guage is freaking out when my RPM's get over 2k, I am not leaking oil, or any other fluids, it also makes a really deep, low grinding noise, like my engine is playing a bass drum really fast. I also found engine oil in my #6 spark plug, but not in any other one, it is currently at 110K miles, I spoke to my father-in-law, and he told me that my combustion chamber might be grinded out, and my piston rings are too big now, and that to fix it, I have to re-bore all of the piston chambers, and if you do that it is practically like having a completely new engine and might as well buy a new one instead. Someone tell me that it could be something else, something minor, or medeocore, but anything besides needing a completely new engine!

*** - If I do need a new engine, which kind should I have!!!!?? What would go best in a sports model cougar? INSIGHT NEEDED PLEASE - ****

dude...16 AND married

sounds like a rod knocking, or worse, a busted piston that will score the crap out of the cylinder wall and potentially make the block unuseable...if i interpreted you're description correctly...which means it (motor) needs to be rebuilt...or replaced by a new on with a warranty, like your f-i-l suggested

if you don't need the car for daily transportation AND you have the knowledge/skills/tools to rebuild your motor, it would probably be cheaper to do just a plain, no-frills rebuild...otherwise buy the replacement from a reputable engine supplier...unless you can find a v8 to swap in and don't have to worry about smog nazis

each scenerio has its benefits and drawbacks

either way, good luck

It isnt a loud repetitive noise, it is more of a ambiance like, and it isnt always happening, only when my RPM's > ~2k. Thanks for the insight, I will begin research for possible trade-ins and stuff, for worst case scenario.

without having major broken parts (heads cracked, block cracked, broken piston), the only way for oil to get into the combustion chamber is past the piston rings (broken, siezed, weak--wore out) or past the valve seal

OR...i have seen crazier things...is #6 at the back of the block, next to an oil return hole in the head?  it could be possible that the head gasket has given out between the cylinder and the oil return hole and is sucking oil out of that passage as it is on its way back to the oil pan...also causing the lower end to be pressurized during the compression stroke

have you done a compression test? if #6 is more than 15% lower than the rest or if it has no compression at all, you have a potential for serious problems

a leak down test would be another diagnostic check before going into full panic mode

do the compression test first

I will get that done, and yes it is next to the oilreturn hole! :O

So first ill have a compression test done, and then if needed, a leak down test?

thanks for the insight.
