I scored a 88 nissan stanza for free and sold it for $1000 bucks.
In fact i have owned 5 cars, All running and in good shape, only have payed for 2 of them for a total of $350, Stripped 3 of them for parts for my car, and sold/scrapped them for a profit of $1050!
Also the newest car i have ever owned was a 88' and I hope to keep it that way.
`
It may not be the fastest or prettiest, but i can pretend

scored...
got my first car a 66 GTO from a friend who blew the diff... 500 bucks.. he had decided to take the engine apart also... when they gave him an estimate of 15 bent valves out of 16... he sold it to me.. i always wondered how 15 valves got bent from a motor that ran... it took years... until i started working at an engine rebuilder.. i saw the tear down man with a socket and hammer taking apart a pallet of chevy heads... yes a pallet of them... each time he hit the spring retainer with the socket and hammer... he drove the valve into the work bench... an Ahha!!! moment..
a gas station customer came through the station with her 71 camaro on the back of a tow truck.. and ask about replacing the timing chain... i told her , when she said no... she said she was going to sell it to a guy in the valley for 200 bucks... i pulled out 200 bucks and had a clean regular camaro.. but that was only till my sister got there... i showed her my camaro... she got into the Wayne.. you bought be a camaro... thank you.. thank you... melissa is gone.. but that camaro still exists in LA.. my sisters step son is still driving it ... bright red.. 4 point cage.. corvette rims..
another gas station score.. a clean rust free 67 camaro... 327, PG, ac, disc brakes, only the drivers seat torn... 500 bucks.. a stop sign runner ended its street life... it was put back together by another friend where it got into hot rod back in the mid 80s in a 4 fast street cars article.. i used to have a time slip for it... 10:60 @132
another shop i worked at had a 71 rally sport camaro.. 350.. got that for 800... the shop owner... a mechanic of 50+ years was really upset... as the car smoked huge amounts about a minute after start up... when i pulled the valve covers and cleaned out the drain back passages. then drove it away smoke free he was furious.. i ended up helping him some with his 69 chevelle pro gas car...
those are the only ones worth talking about here... but .. i still have dreams of driving the GTO... and i sold it 24 years ago... the memories of getting pulled over by beverly hills PD.. doing 75 on sunset at 4 am... and everybody in the car yelling ditch him. your car is way faster than theirs.... yes.. but not his radio.... when the officer was walking up to the car... my sister.. yes same sister rolled down her back window.. stuck her head out and yelled..."we did'nt do anything."... was priceless... she also came back from her first trip on a jumbo jet. and told of how much fear she was feeling prior to take off... then the pilot revved up the motors and released the brakes... as the plane pushed her into the seat harder and harder. went faster and faster.. she said she lost her fear... felt right at home.. then she realized.. its just like riding in wayne's GTO... i still remember seeing peoples heads whip back as i changed gears...

about six years ago...garage kept 78 caprice 2-door from original owner (a couple that looked to be 80 at the time) for 700...with "transmission" problems
the modulator valve went bad years ago, they would add fluid and drive it until it started to slip again and then fill it back up
they used this "fix" until it didn't work any more
i replaced the tranny with one i had laying around, drove the car for a year and sold it for 1500
had fourth child on the way and six just didn't fit in the car that well, now we're wondering if that was the only reason we sold the car...and kicking ourselves

Two deals I've gotten were in 2001 I bought a '69 Firebird 400 for $2300. It needed paint, but the body was perfect and not a spot of rust on the car. It ran great, I painted it and I put a 700r4 in it. The car was a steal, then some guy ran a red light and totalled it and the money from insurance and sueing the unlicensed/uninsured SOB still didn't even get my close to the cost of a similar one.
The second one was my '72 Centurion Convertible. The guy was asking $5,500 for it, and when I called on it he said he blew the engine that day and would take $2500. I already had another 455 coming out of the machine shop that week, so I picked it up and put the new engine in it, and a week later had a pimp in a caddy waving $5,000 in hundred dollar bills at me while going down the freeway.
- The Silver Buick- '77 Skylark coupe w/ a Fuel Injected Buick 455&TKO-600, '72 Centurion Conv't - 455w/TH400, '67 T-bird 4Dr (suicide) w/428&C6. Needing to replace a '69 Firebird 400.

Lets see in 1992, `71 Torino 500 for $300.00 all original. In 1996, a 12 sec. `69 Nova for $3,500.00, which sold about 10 years later for $8,000.00.

In 2007 bought my 1973 Monte Carlo Sport Coupe on Ebay for $1500. Super Chevy decoded the vin for me while I was deployed. Chevy built 4,960 Monte sport coupes in 73.

about 90 or so, bought a rust free 69 Mustang GT fastback, not a Mach 1, real GT, for $1000 and drove it home. In 2007, bought my current `57 Ford Custom Tudor sedan off ebay for $900. Otherwise, have been cornholed on every other deal.
