I am having a difficult time finding a good 440 big block for a reasonable price in my area. ford 460s can be found all day long and make good power. does anyone know which engine is physically larger and by how much and if the ford will fit in the engine bay of a 74 duster. this will be a street cruiser. please don't bash the idea. thanks for the help.

there is one problem....
the 460 has the oil pump in the front part of the oil pan... if you swap over to a tubular K member it may fit... you may have to do serious surgery to the K member to clear the front sump in the pan... perhaps welding a piece of 3/8 plate to the bottom of the crossmember... and cutting out the middle between the lower control arm mounts then welding plates over the opening..
remember the big block dodge has the oil pump on the front of the block off to the side... so the front of the pan is almost flat..
the 460 is about the same size as the hemi... so other than the oil pump location problem.. it should be able to fit and close the hood..
if you are going to get a 460... be sure to get one with a holley 4180 carb on it ... instead of the ford 4350 or thermoquad...... the 85-87 carbs seem to work the best... they usually have a holley list number 50262....

nino.... does the engine turn freely with a breaker bar and a socket on the crank bolt?????
it still could be the starter.... they do go bad...
and if you have hammered on it... it will be ruined... it has ceramic magnets in it... they fracture like a glass.. but being magnets... they stick tight to them selfs and to anything metal..
