I am planning on buying a body to a 68' firebird and to make it more reliable and to be drivable every day i need to find the best modern-day powertrain setup to put in it.ANY IDEAS?

Build a Pontiac 400 or 455 for that car.  The pontiac engine is very reliable and daily driving is no problem.  If you want an overdrive to make it more freeway friendly, you can run a built 2004r transmission or a Tremec TKO 5 speed.
