I have a chevelle with a 307 that I rebuilt and it had a 1500RPM stall converter in it and 3.73 gears and a powerglide trans. I asked here on car craft and I asked summet and I was recomended a 2500RPM stall converter so I had one made to fit my applacation and when I took it to the dragstrip I found that the car runs the exact same time, it runs the same 60ft, same 1/8 mile, and the 1/4 mile. I was told that it would make the car about a half a second faster but it did nothing.  It ran a 16.45 with the 1500RPM stall and a 16.42 with the 2500RPM stall. What do you think is the reasion it did not ron any faster and how can I make it run faster with what I've got.

P.S. I dont think the secondires are opening but I dont think this is the reasion why. And the new converter does stall at 2500RPM.

Should I take it back to the transmission shop and have a 3000 Stall put in since the 2500 did nothing for the 60ft time or the 1/4 mile time.

If going up a 1000rpms on the stall did not help then it most likely will need some other work done to the engine to produce more power if the 2500 stall was no help then a 3000 stall will most likey not help either.

hello again,

get a bm holeshot converter...it will go about 27/28 hundred in your set up..more stall WOULD help...its a pig below 3k...

LOSE THE GLIDE!!!!!!

thats whats killing you...a short stroke motor with no starting line ratio...

if you want to kill some ET...it needs to be done at the BEGINNING of the run...in your first 330 feet...

my Rx:

if you are set on the 307 (which you seem to be) throw in a 200r4...that will get you a 2.74 first gear...get a 3000 converter (with a lock up!!!!)BEST DUAL PURPOSE REMEDY...but

yap..big bux....but the best BANG!!!...if not:

Go th350 (if this was my car..3200+ stall) and 4.10s....

you need a better mecanical advantage with the 3.25 stroke....

oh yeah:

LOSE THE GLIDE...with its 1.82 (or 1.76)...you would need a 4k converter to wake that little motor up at put it near its TQ peak....

I just had the glide rebuilt and I love the consistency I have never lost a race at the dragstrip when we are running et, here are my time slips from the last time I went, 16.45, 16.45, 16.45, 16.44, 16.45, 16.43, 16.45. I dial in at 16.42 and no one can dial in that tight, so if I cut a good light I cant be beat, knock on wood.

Could I trade my newly rebuilt powerglide for a newly rebuilt TH-350 so I am not out any money or are TH-350s worth more money than a glide.

but the B&M converters really multiply well and they are priced right....very efficient pieces...

so ;

2.52 x 3.73 x 1.7 (that in converter multiplcation factor..can also go as high as 2.2 on custom built units...this has nothing to do with stall speed)

thats what make a good converter and another one great.ya get what ya pay for....

if you are running a vac sec carb...put the yellow spring in it...and a red pump cam...try  a 31 shooter...should wake it up....

When I put in the new converter I put in the white spring(not on the chart that came with the spring kit) that is just a little bit weaker and a little bit shorter than the yellow spring, and I fliped the accl. pump cam upside down(the flip side is more aggressive), and still nothing on 1/4 mile time ( but it runs a whole lot better). If I am at a dead stop and stomp it to the floor it will lay a black mark down about 15ft long and get the smoke a going and it did not do that at all before I put in the new converter and all that other stuff but it still runs the same ET. What do You think is holding it back. And what is a 31 shooter.

well you are on the right track...   tuning...

shooter; accelerator pump nozzle...there is a number stamped on it which corresponds to the orfice size....0.031 thou...common baseline size.....

what is the 60 ft time ??

are you at least at 1.75 ??

1 tenth saved in the 60 is two tenths off the ET....for typical high 12 sec street machines....
