Hello I have a 1992 Buick Skylark that failed the pressure test for emissions. Just want to know if this is a common issue. Also what should I check/replace first. Thanks for any information

are saying that there's insufficient pressure at the tail pipe for the test to get a valid reading?
are there any leaks in the exhaust system? -- hole in muffler, pipe rusted out somewhere?
if these are not problems, it's possible for the catalytic converter to become partially clogged
a reputable muffler shop should do these checks for little to no charge
these should be your first checks/inspections if i read the question right

i wonder if the pressure test is the gas cap pressure test.... where they put the gas cap on the pressure tester on the side of the smog machine.. give it a few pumps... and the machine tests the cap for proper operation..
the failed test should be described on the test result page... what exactly did it say??????
there is also a complex vapor system on cars... that can also set a check engine light if it fails... usually this is more on 96 and newer cars... but if the check engine light stays on while you are driving... time to get the codes read... a 92 would be an OBD1 system.. and you can read codes by jumping the a and b terminal on the little black connector just above your knees... then turning on the key and counting the check engine light flashes...
instructions on how to do this are available...
but what did the test say...
