No adapter kits should be necessary as the 200-4R has a BOP and Chevy bolt pattern.  When I swapped in the 200-4R for my old TH400 in my Cutlass...the ONLY thing I had to do was change out the yoke on the driveshaft and bend new transmission cooler lines...it bolted right in otherwise.

What was different for the yoke?  I have a 87 caprice wagon with a 200-4r and I took out a drive shaft from a 78' Pontiac safari wagon with a 375 or 350 and it seemed to fit fine until i started to get this god awful clunk under very hard acceleration. I was wondering if it could be the tranny yoke pulling outa the tranny. Did you get a longer yoke?
`

It may not be the fastest or prettiest, but i can pretend

I had a 400 before switching to the 200-4R.  There's a HUGE difference in size of the yokes.

For your issue...it could be as simple as a bad u-joint.

I put a 700r4 in my '69 Firebird 400.  I used a 700r4 yoke from the junkyard and an adapter plate to bolt it to the block. Make sure your drive shaft is the correct length and not bottoming out in the transmission.  Lastly check what differential gear ratio you have.  I had 2.73's and it was on the fringe of the overdrive not being usable (80mph at 1800rpm, needs LOTS of low end torque for that) and lots of F-bodies that year had 2.42 gears.

Hey Jeff, a company called Monster Transmission makes conversion packages for installing Metric Overdrives in older vehicles.  A 200-4R should bolt right up to the Pontiac engine.  You'd need TV cable, all the Metric bolts and nuts, a speedometer setup, etc.  Their packages have everything but driveshafts, crossmembers, and shifters.  The yoke and transmission length is the same as a Turbo 350, which is what your Trans Am should have come with from the factory so the driveshaft should be perfect.  Tell them your rear gear ratio and rear tire height and they'll gear the tranny so your speedo will work perfectly.
