spring time in georgia, time to hit the mountain roads. I built my X- body Skylark after reading about grassroots motor sports 2002 challange.and in reading about the big block shootout saw the buick 455 was a lightweight engine.I also had worked for cadillac and knew the same years seville was the same car with heavier duty parts. I used the whole frame w/12 inch brakes 5x5 bolt pattern added t/a quick steering box and the disk brake rear was a bolt in bonus.the 455 engine was a craigslist find, added GM 3.42w/ posi. 200r4 with the basics.I built it to handle not drag(not alot of straight roads here in n. georgia) I spent less than 2 grand building this car &it's been a daily driver since then.she only turns 14 flat 97mph. in quater mile but brakes 150 easy on open road (I have awards from local cops)I know most buick people are drag racers but Up&down right&left and hung-out in a hairpin really puts a lump in my throat, not to forget ears poppin from evelation changes &shortness of breath from, for lack of a better discription Fear.we can't let you left coasters have all the fun. I have driven Mullholland and all through Topanga canyonand our Hwy. 60 is mo better. If ya'll come to a YEAR ONE gig check it out. Let's go chase some rice rockets.john pero

dude, saw your stuff in the magazine (silver buick)Kudo's on the tko tranny but I think a super T-10 or a wide ratio muncie would be my choice next build-up.aka:torque.once again I don't drag, most of the time I push it i'm in 2nd or3rd anyway and as you know that covers a lot of speed (20-70)I just built another 200r4 w/all the stuff but I'm an idiot next to Art Carr. i'll be lucky if it works at all. Been looking at turbo's, bought a .70w/.84 a/r gonna use t/a pull through carb base w/holley spread bore dbbl.pumper. bite your tongue 'cause I love 'em.this is all on my bench waiting. it is my daily driver till I finish my 77 Starfire GT (v-8 monza) Engine is finished 350 roller cam dart heads s-10 spindles(2in. drop)s-10 axels 3.50w/posi rear all the poly bushings gas tank was rotted so I put in a fuel cell, 18 gallon i don't like stopping.but if you ever saw how far foward the engine sits it ain't never gonna corner like I want so i'll likley sell it. anyway ya'll call.

Thanks. I haven't found my second or third gears too short, especially considering the 3.70 gears, those two gears fall perfectly in the MPH range you're talking about. 4th is for 70- ~110mph or so, and the .64 OD keeps it cruising comfortably. Infact anything less than the 3.70 gears starts getting too low for the overdrive ratio, I used to have 3.23 gears in there. But with a 26" tall tire I'm crusing at 75mph around 2200rpm, perfect to keep the oil pressure up and not lug the engine on even the steepest of hills.

It's not that I wouldn't have a tko It's all about money.we are healthy and happy but even when I have a job I'm still living below poverty level. I could pray for a Chip Foose intervintion but odd's for that are less than hitting lotto.I want my Skylark to be a full-on sportsman car (IMSA)for the street.I really think I could build it for about 5 grand and have lots of the parts now,my shop is a dirt floored shed but I do what I can. I'm 58 and slowing down physicaly but my brain won't let go.best of luck to you and your's.JOHN PERO
