Looking for "10's on beer money" article

I remember somewhere between 1997-1999 it was Car Craft, Hot Rod, or PHR did an article about a guy, I think his name was Gerald Boyd, and he had a 78-80 AMC Spirit running in the tens. I believe the car was a dark purple and had a brown interior. "10's on beer money" was what I think the article was called. Does anybody remember the magazine that it was in, and the month and year? I had it years ago but lost most of my mags in a move. I'd like to duplicate the car, any helping finding the issue with that article would be appreciated.  

With the aftermarket parts that are available now, 10 years later, you need information and imagination rather than trying to duplicate that combo.  Finding a complete 401 to satrt with will be your biggest challenge.  And you probably won't find one of those for the cost of a six-pack.
