Hi,
I am working on a 1969 mustang sportsroof with a 351W and a C4.  I have removed the mechanical fuel pump and installed a Carter electric unit at the tank.  My question is, what is the best way to wire the pump?  Would it be better to wire it to a swith that I would have to turn on befor starting the car, or should i wire it to the ignition swith where it will run any time the swich is on?  Is there a way to set it up where it will turn off if the car is not started within like 5 seconds?

The car is a street driver and not raced.  Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

yes... get a fuel pump relay for an 86 -87 volkswagen rabbit...  they use signal from the negative side of the coil to keep the contacts closed...    no ignition.. the contacts open 2 or 3 seconds later... it powers up for 2 seconds when it first gets power from the key... then shuts off and waits for ignition signal...

one thing... it uses 3/8" spade terminals for the power pin 30 and the output pin 87..   this allows more current to pass .. as earlier versions had contacts overheating..

this will not work if you have a MSD or cap discharge type ign...   those sometimes put out too much power and will let the smoke out of it...

there are several cars that have 3 prong oil pressure switches...   the side terminals  are open when there is no pressure... and closed when there is... the center terminal is for the light.. and works backwards... careful junk yarding may get you a ford oil pressure switch extension tube... moves the sender out past the fuel pump...  so many ways to do this...

Thanks! The Volswagen relay idea sounds like just what I am looking for.  I am running an Ignighter 2 with a flame thrower coil.

My car has the oil pressure switch extention tube on it.  I have a T in it with the factory switch on one side and a guage tube on the other.  I think that i am still gong to put a switch in the circuit so that I can kill the pump manualy if I need to.

Again thanks for the help.  If you have any more suggestions please let mr know.

Ok, I checked on the fuel pump relay and I found 2 for the rabbit/golf.  one has 4 terminals and one has 5.  Which one do I need and which terminal wires to what?  I think you mean the 4 terminal one, but I need to know how to hook it up.  Thanks for the help.
