ok this is bugging the hell outta me.
its the middle of winter and this kid is talking *** about his car being faster than my. He's got a 1999 Malibu with a 3.1 and I've got my 2001 Cavy with a 2.4 Twin Cam.
He has a Cold air Intake and runs high octane fuel but other than that the rest is stock.
I have Cold air intake, bosch quad spark plugs, synthetic blend 5W-30 and run 89 octane to a total of 165 HP.
Any hope of me killing him on the strip?

Maybe if he swerves across the centerline . . . .

But why wait until spring to square off?  Just bolt on some snow tires and have at it!*

Better yet . . . settle it on "Pinks."

My money is on whomever has hidden a nitrous bottle.

Actually a 3.1 'Bu came with either 155 or 170 horses stock and up to 190 lbs/ft of torque. All of those ponies are lugging around larger and heavier coachwork than on your little bundle of FWD hope (excluding, of course any weight gains from a giant stereo, video/wii system, body kit, tuner wing, 24" wheels, plus-sized girlfriend, back-seat fireplace, etc.).

BTW, the 1999 3.1 is not a DOHC and only has twelve valves.

Thus, although the loquacious 'Bu Master has probably has you covered on torque, the eBay miracle of a "cold air kit" and some Shell V-Power isn't enough to knock off a 165 h.p. "Cavy."

And you can tell 'em Turbo Ted said so! (that ought to intimidate all the trash talk right out of 'em)

On the other hand, the strip is a funny place where sometimes a better driver and/or slower car wins . . . . **

*Turbo Ted urges everyone to be safe and race safe, always wear seat belts, avoid illegal street racing and sydeshows like the plague, eat a balanced diet, drink pasturized milk, take your vitamins, see your dentist twice a year (optional for most residents of West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky) wash your hands after using the loo, avoid run-on sentences and comma abuse. Anything Turbo Ted suggests requires a  professional driver and a closed course.  Don't try this at home. Sell your planet-killing car now and buy a pedal-powered OBAMAcycle with your next stimulus check . . . .

**Turbo Ted's hallucinations about past performances are not predictive of future results.

I recommend doing that before the run along with taking a quick poop and a whiz. Elimination of every unnecessary ounce counts when you're only taking about a hundred and a half rippling steeds to a grudge race.

Just imagine if I were to start a thread on quarter-mile exploits with the infamous General Tito Yugo. It might turn some readers to bulimia . . . .

(BTW, Yugos on the 1320 put a different twist on the phrase "shut down")

Good thing his squeeze is a big 'un. She'll be better at helping push the "Reverse Burnout Special" out of parking spaces . . . .

Of course, if this "mano y mano" showdown on the drag strip was scripted like some old 1950s hot rod movie, you guys would be matching up to see who "won" the wench . . . .

Thanks!

And laughter's good . . . it builds lung capacity necessary to pedal over mountain grades like California's Cajon Pass . . . .
