Larry R. Daum, whom is very well known in the AMC community just had his recently completely renewed and modified '69 AMX stolen from in front of his house in Pahrump Nevada, on the evening of January 20th, 2009. The thieves made off with his car while he was in the house! This is a very high end restoration/modification and the car is very, very distinctive. It has sixties Corvette fuel injection medallions on the rear quarters, the car has black backglass lovers, a black '70 Donohue spoiler, has a chrome trailer hitch below the rear bumper. Nevada historical plates- "6151", is painted Viper Red, has Trendsetter sidepipes, aftermarket fuel injection, aluminum radiator, Chrysler rear-end, rear anti-roll bar, '70 high back seats, old school sixties Kustom Klassic or similar five spoke wheels, and on down the line. AMX's are uncommon cars in the first place and this one stands out amongst stand outs. Call Larry(775)513-8112 or the NYE County Sheriffs (775) 751-7000 if you have info or see the car or parts on Craig's list, Ebay, or any other venue Here's a photo:

A correction and some additional information. The rear-end is a Lincoln Versailles 9-inch rear with rear discs. The high back bucket seats are from an AMC Pacer. Thanks. Steve A

Update. Car has been recovered elsewhere in the state. Engine, wiring harness, trans, grille brackets, "AMX" badge, hood springs, driver's mirror, door top stainless, and windshield (broken), and Trendsetter sidepipe system all removed. Passenger door severely bashed in , right quarter slightly dented, windshield broken and in the back, tabs broken on the grille, spoiler bent, front bumper tweaked. Salvageable apparently and apparently some piece-of-something-you- wipe-off-your-shoe-sole-when-you-step-in-it from within the AMC fold did it. They are probably in Nevada or nearby California. Keep an eye out please for someone with the aforementioned parts suddenly sprouted on a long term project- particularly the more esoteric stuff that went with mentioned in earlier posts. Thanks. Criminals like the evil ones who ripped off and vandalized this beautiful car have no place in our hobby. They belong in prison!
Tips:
1. Don't let strangers know where you live.
2. Always cover your license plate and VIN when you show your "built," "restored," "collector" or "special-interest" car. Always. Car thieves love to "case" your stuff at car shows.
3. Register your car at a P.O. Box or your work, not at your house.
4. When your special-interest car is out of your sight, keep it in a locked, alarmed garage.
5. Always set your alarm (hopefully it's a pager alarm) and your other anti-theft devices.
6. Lock your front wheels in a turned position so that towing is more difficult.
7. Don't take your car into shops in your immediate area -- just take in the wheels or other parts that you need worked on . . . and don't ever let anyone from any shop have the keys to your car (unless it's a valet key). If you need to take your whole car in for dyno tuning or other work, take it out-of-town to a reputable, insured shop, and stay with it.
8. Don't rely on garage door openers -- padlock or bolt your garage from the inside. Everytime. Without fail.
9. Know who you let into your garage/shop/house.
10. Don't keep the keys for your car or your garage in obvious places (key racks, "hidden key holders," under the mat, in the ignition, behind the sunvisor, in the ashtray/cupholder/glovebox/map pocket).
11. Beaters make good "blocker cars" for parking in front of your locked garage.
12. Elaborate kill-switch systems can prevent drive-offs and unskilled scum (not much you can do to stop stealthy pros with wreckers and lots of time)
13. If you can figure out how to disable your alarm/anti-theft system, the crooks can too. Make sure the power supplies, power cables, and the sirens/horns aren't accessible without opening the LOCKED hood and/or trunk.
14. Systems redundancy -- it's not just for NASA anymore.
15. Unless your name is JEFF SMITH, don't list it in the phone book or on the web.
16. Etch identification numbers on all of the "hot" parts (unless you're a concours restorer . . . and DON'T USE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!)
17. Don't brag about your car or your shop or your tools to people you don't know.
18. Remember, pros can get your address through a variety of way (credit cards, registration forms, car club rosters, etc.) so be careful who you give your personal information to.
19. Sleepers attract less attention from car theves, too.
20. Watch who you deal with. That shady guy who gives you that impossibly "smokin'" deal on parts may have ripped them off from someone else . . . and may rip you off someday. Ask for the "back story" on suspcicious "deals" and try to verify it before you buy.
21. Change the ignition key switch and the locks if you suspect there are duplicate keys in the hands of people who know your car or where you live.
