1996 EGJ 3.5L V-6 SOHC Dodge Intrepid HELP!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm normally a ricer tuner. Mitsu's, Nissan's, etc. I LOVE 69 Camaro's (but not in red.) And I think that Turbo is the platform for boost.

That aside, my fiancee wants to turn her 96 Intrepid into a show/street car. I've got the exterior figured out, but the engine is giving me problems. I can't find ANYTHING for it. And it's driving me crazy.

I'm not looking at a beast under the hood, but I'd like to drop an extra 100 HP on the stock 250 horses.

Can anyone help me out? Should I just swap the engine or are there any parts under the Chrysler/Eagle models that carried the engine?

What you need to do first is take the heads off and completly dissasemble them and weld up the existing valve guide holes. Set them up on a vertical mill with the spidle set at 5* for the intake and 3* for the exhaust. Drill, ream, bush, and ream for 7/16 valve stems.

Really, there is no hope for that engine without major money. On the other hand is pure luck if you can locate a good Barber Dodge engine that they used for open wheel cars. The Intreped engine was the foundation for this powerplant but I have no idea what mods they did to the engine itself.

Thanks man. Let's say luck is on my side. How much would that Barber engine cost?

Well according to this article:

http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=7658&FS=BARBER

You would be hard pressed even finding one in one piece, they probably destroyed those engines.

The article does state that the 3.2 is a much torquer engine so maybe the 3.2 is the way to go for your project.

Maybe you should just put some juice to it and call it a day. By the time you sort out the electronics (engine management) with that thing, its just a waist.

Why not find a pre 1987 four door rear wheel drive car if you want to play or start with a Caprice?

In other words, the engine in that car is about as good as its going to get without major investment in time and money.

Maybe this guy can help you out: http://www.boosthead.com/home.php

The car is her baby... So a different car is out of the question. As far as using her car as the platform..... I don't particularly like Dodges... So playing with her engine and it failing is good for me.

No.... Chevy's and tuners are my territory. And the Caprice..... meh. A good beginner car for sure.

Thanks for the link. And the help.

Good luck trying to break the engine, supposedly that is one of Dodge's premium engines and is built with a forged crank and other upgraded components. Anything is breakable though, just might take more to break it.
