I have a 385 stroker in my 87 Firebird Formula,With an aluminum radiator. My problem is if I run the car for a period I notice my radiator hoses swell you can't even squeese them , because so much pressure.I even added a new 13 psi cap, still swells, but does not over heat.Why.

get an infrared non contact temp gun...   measure the temps of various parts of the cooling system...      you can even have the cap tested with a radiator pressure tester with the proper adaptor...

little temp pens start at 20 bucks... better models are 39 to 59 bucks..

make sure the hose to the expansion tank is not plugged also the fitting in the radiator. the 13 lb. cap is designed to allow the excess pressure and coolant into the tank when it heats up , then recover when the system cools down. something has to be plugged if excess pressure is present.

this happens when your hoses get old and worn out too.
are they new hoses?
it's possible the engine is getting too hot.
i had a 400 that blew several hoses, when i had to waite for a stop light.
funny how important a thing like a fan shroud is.

i must have forgotten about the replacement airdam that fits under the core support...

i don't know what year they started coming stock on the trans ams...

the air flow under the front bumper needs to be diverted up through the radiator and condenser...

the one i am thinking of is rigid... about 4 inches tall...  and will really keep a TA cool at speed...   i know its been a while since he posted this..  but i looked and cwright is still active...     got a fix yet cw...
