Ok, so I have a 1979 Chrysler Newport, and the 318 motor has an electronic carburetor. I would like to change it over to a traditional style Holley 4 barrel squarebore and was wondering what all needs to be swapped out to make it work. Nothing is fundamentally wrong with it right now, but I would like to be able to tune it later down the road when I start getting into the motor. If at all possible I would like to be able to use factory or factory appearing parts for everything but the carb. Thanks in advance.

just curious ... does it have the optional 4 bbl on it already????  or the 2 bbl holley or the 2 bbl carter... or even the carter 4bbl...

and... if it has the electronic carb.. it will usually be a carter 2 bbl with an electric solenoid on the back center of the carb...     that solenoid regulates air bleeds... with it pulsing on for longer than off to richen up the mixture.. or off more than on to lean it out..   warning... do not spray carb cleaner into the carb...  the plastic componants in the electric control solenoid will melt and stick closed..

if you have the lean burn with the holley 4 bbl... that unit usually changes the timing... not so much the fuel mixture...    if it does have the holley 4bbl lean burn carb.. it might have the reverse idle mixture screws...  they control the idle air bleeds instead of the fuel into the idle circuit..  they will have a sticker on the side of the metering block usually to say it does...

you might want to install the mopar performance replacement distributer.. that way you will get a decent advance built in.. instead of what ever the rebuilder puts in a reman single pick up unit....

oh... and if you have the 2 bbl... and plan on swapping on a 4 bbl.. you might need to see if there is enough adjustments in the throttle cable and transmission throttle valve linkage to move it about an inch and a half forward...

Yeah, its a lean burn Carter 2bbl with electronic ignition, I do plan on swapping to a 650cfm 4160 Holley. I just need to know what I need as far as parts, I'm fairly sure I need a different distrubutor, but what model can I get it off of from a yard? I know I need an aftermarket intake, but what intake do I use? I believe it is a Chrysler "LA", but this is where Im having the most diffuculty. I'm not sure what the exact engine designation is, all I know is it has the 2 barrel intake and is a 318 pre-Magnum motor.
