"H8N" on Car Craft.

Front Man Douglas "don't get mad, get" Glad laments in the January '09 issue of CC that he doesn't get enough "hate mail" these days. (See page 6).
He admits that he's "lost sight of the things that make Car Craft fun."
(By no small irony, the January '09 CC has the annual government-required statement of circulation -- which undoubtely shows some declines from the halcyon days of Freiburger's Corona-induced, empty-pockets, hose-clamped-n-duct-taped "Junkyard Craft" madness. Of course the economy and the internet are hammering virtually all magazines these days)
We don't want "CC/Ramblin' Doug" to get bummed out at the lack of "H8N" on CC, so here's a shot across the old masthead . . . .
1. We hate that CC hasn't done a non-Chevy turbo B-I-G block build in the FIVE LONG YEARS since that brilliant plan was hatched in the awesome "We're not rich but we're not stupid" thread.
2. We hate that CC hasn't even deigned to MENTION the "We're not rich but we're not stupid" thread in print, even though it is in excess of 350 posts and 30,000+ "impressions."
3. We hate that CC is almost a de facto PR arm for GM's LS V8, while ignoring other modern V8s, such as the Gen III Hemi and the incredible Ford Modular.
4. We hate that CC hasn't even bothered to do a small-cube jy-style turbo build (see the "We're not rich but we're not stupid" thread).
5. We hate that CC in the post-Matt King years can't seem to build or even feature Fox-body Fords -- even though such light RWD Foxes are some of the most affordable and buildable raw material available to Car Crafters.
6. We hate that CC hasn't already done a Police Interceptor build (a defect that the CC blog appears to be addressing).
7. We hate that CC keeps shrinking (now less than 100 pages) but blows too much of that limited space on silly tee-shirt models who have their own websites. That precious space could better be used for more tech articles.
8. We hate that CC isn't doing wild & cheap stuff such as retrofitting junkyard Eaton blowers to obscure engines or "twincharging" small V8s (and then pummeling all sorts of dopey import tuners and saggy, old, rich "crate motor" Crafters with the short-fused, livin'-on-the-edge results).
9. We hate that CC isn't scouring events like the Hot Rod Power Tour for crazy homebuilt stuff, such as home-turbocharged shorts, off-the-hook engine swaps, and other righteous and low-buck "sano" stuff.
10. We hate that CC didn't snag a smokin' hot, wrench-spinning female editor from Wyo Tech like Hunkins over at PHR did. (CC's girlies just stand around looking dumb while PHR's real world broad is liable to KO ya at the nearest stoplight)
11. We hate that CC hasn't done an "Americruise" in over twenty years (and never in a power-adder Ford or Mopar . . . and let Rod & Custom steal the brand for a Social Security-sponsored, sleep-inducing "350/350" street rod tour) and forgot how to do a "Crusin' U.S.A." yarn.
12. We hate that CC doesn't have nearly enough objective testing of parts, engine builds and modifications.
13. We hate that CC isn't packed with as much wiseguy sarcasm as the legendary MOPAR ACTION magazine. (MA's a lot more fun to read on the can than CC . . . but I suspect that CC's a bit more absorbant).
14. We hate that CC doesn't show up on the website and interact more with the readership.
15. We hate that CC readers have to travel to the Aussie AutoSpeedwebsite to read some of the D-I-Y hacks that should be exposed in CC.
That's probably enough for one "H8" blast. I don't want Glad to be placed on suicide watch.
And HEY, HEY, HEY! Let's save ALL of the skanky tattoos and "tramp stamps" for the wantabe greaser molls over at pointless rags such as "Hot Rod Deluxe," "Old S'Kool Rodz" and other mindless fake-retro books.
Money you waste on a "tat" is coin that should have been invested in making your street machine quicker and faster. . . .
That's a [Glad]wrap.

I'm a Aussie and the website to visit is : Aussie performance. Com. &. For turbos : snort performance. Com.au .
It's my hope to encourage hybred adaptable technology by aftermaket manufactures to ensure are sport can survive the new world. The green movement is seeking to destroy us , are old cars are on there hit list, we are also being targeted by anti hoon laws and some mean people who think car crushing is good, and will teach us a lession.
I feel we need to kick our own ass's, and be pro active to the chalenges the govt is bringing, not just reactive all the time, and then getting upset when are rights are slowly eroded away. We need to be responsible, and seek out and use, new technology . If we just keep doing the same old thing, they will legislate us out of excistance with rediculace laws , that target only either old cars, big motors, street machiners/ modders.
That saying about keeping my enemys close is valid, if we take some initiative in defending our rights, preserving the environent with hybred tech, and not angering the orthorities , but working with them , we will be seen to be responsible, educated, valuable part of sociaty
We need more involvement by CC in adressing the needs of it's comunity, and not just catering to mass's as there herded towards the cliff face of extinction!

Well said!
American Racing legend Carroll Shelby, however, takes a bit more of an optimistic view the challenges.
The one thing I've notice about Aussie car websites is that they've got more do-it-yourself projects than in America. The U.S. car culture has become too much "bolt-on" and "do-it-for-me." What's remarkable is that the Aussie laws appear to be a lot harsher against hot rodding/homebrewed tuning.
