i lined up marks on timing gears top gear mark on top and bottom gear mark on top that is right isnt it???

you need to line them up dot to dot.with the dots facing eachother.cam gear dot on bottom and crank gear dot on top..DOT to DOT

If you're using an adjustable aftermarket double roller timing chain, make sure you're using the correct dot on the crank gear.
If you've just got a standard single or double roller, he's correct above, the two dots should be across from each other.

If you have an adjustable timing set make sure you are using the right timing marks and key ways. But the dot's should be next to each other.
