On my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquise I experience a transmissin rattle like a wash board effect
when accellerating or uphills sometimes hard (clunky ?) downshift. Vehicle is in proper operating temperature.

there is a fix for that...  i have forgotten what it is right now...  it is the torque conveter clutch locking and unlocking rapidly...

it is called a chuggle in the ford descriptions...   usually it is fixable... without rebuilding the transmission...

is the check engine light on.?????     do you have a scan tool that views live data ... not just trouble codes????

The transmision you have is more than likey the AOD-E. Superior transmisions sells a shift correction kit that will solve the converter lockup shudder and sloppy shifts but this kit should be installed by a qualified tranny shop because it's a little bit of an involved procedure plus they can also check for anything in the pan.

All the power in the world don't mean a thing if you can't get it to the ground!

May be it just need some general cleaning or you have to drain again the atf and replace it with new once.
