i have a 88 gmc s15 with a 2.8 liter engine and 700r4. S15 is going to salvage yard. Would like overtdrive in my 63 belair or 82 regal. Belair has original 283 with powerglide and the regal has a mild chevy 327. What do i need to install 700r4 in either car. Was told i would need different bell housing. Is this true.

the 2.8 trans will not bolt up to a conventional chevy 250 straight six or small or big block... the 700's from a 4.3 will...
and ... a lot of people are using that year of s10 frame, motor, transmission and rear ends to go under various hot rods...... some are just using the front frame clip...
just a thought to get you more money than most junk yards will pay you...
and putting on a different bell housing.. i on later 700s. they did have removable bellhousings... and you can swap them to a larger style bellhousing..

the buick uses a 4 link type of rear end.. the s10 a leaf spring.... the center casting is different.. as are the outer brackets..
this is kinda out of my line of work... usually under the hood... not in oem rear end swapping..
anything can be made to fit anything else...
if you need a stronger rear end... there are several companys out there that have 12 bolt housings and 9 inch ford housings ready to install... they are used a lot under the turbocharged buick GN's and GNX's
