1965 Olds Cutlass Convertible 330 V8, 2 spd tranny Single Exhaust All original, no mods
I am trying to replace my starter and having problems, I need to hit the starter with a hammer just to get it to work.
I have the car up on ramps and the starter is accessible from below. I can remove the bolts off the starter but between the exhaust and (I think) the K member I can slide the starter but not enough to get it out.
Anyone know the procedure I'm supposed to use or where to find it to get the starter out and get the new one in?
Thanks,

I had the same problem on my 68. I ended up pulling the motor mount pins and lifting the motor a little to clear the front crossmember.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I'll give it a try.
I just don't want to start trying things and make it more more of a mess and difficult than it needs to be.

Checked out the mounts, can't get to the critical bolt on right side of engine, starter is in the way. Damn!
Any other ideas?

Well, I finally got it replaced. Just in case anyone else is as dumb as I am, here you go:
Take transmission/flywheel cover plate off the bottom and duh, all the room you need to replace the starter.
Thats it, no problem.
Thanks for everyone's help/suggestions. Better late than never.
