After reading about Taner Bosnali's clutch explosion in the September 08 issue of Car Craft, I was appalled that this could happen in this day and time. Does Milan Dragway not have a tech inspection procedure? Mr. Bosnali has obviously raced this car before, judging from his tag on the front of the vehicle. This car should never have been allowed to be on the track without a scatter shield. I hope this serves as a lesson to all car crafters. If you are going to race the vehicle you're building any at all, safety equipment should be at the top of your parts list, not just an after thought. I'm glad Mr. Bosnali wasn't hurt any worse than he was. This could have been much, much worse.

I gotta agree, stupdity was securely in the driver's seat for running the car without a scatter shield. Fortunately luck was on his side and he only got a broken toe, but all too often this kind of mechanical failure results in pieces of your foot being lost. just ask Don Garlits or some of the other racers from the 60s!

What bothered me more is that the magazine didn't point out in the story that the car should've had a scatter shield, and stress to the readers why it is a valuable piece of safety equipment to have in a stick equipped car.

stupidity is NOT in the driver's seat!  you should do a little homework on an LT1  with a T56..... NO ONE MAKES a flipping scattershield!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i will attribute your comments to the stupidity securely in front of the key board.   yeah you could say i am offended by your comments.

you don't know me from Adam yet you make a buttload of ASSumptions.  i don't mess with safety!

i DID however have a custom Kevlar blanket which i had CUSTOM MADE, over 6 years ago!!! that is what saved my limbs. the pics you see scratch only the surface of the damage.without the blanket i am certain i would have issues walking right now.

LS1 cars have had a bellhousing available for 2 years now.  it is not my fault LT1 cars aren't popular enough, I won't apologize for building a quick street car either.

BUT due to what happened, McLeod is now producing bellhousings for the LT1 bretheren. so some good came from it. in the mean time i ended up converting to an ls1 style clutch with ls1 front cover and input shaft.
