So, Im trying to figure out what the rules are for the burnout competition!! I have heard rumors that only automatic transmission equiped vehicles can participate. Is this so? That would be extremely stupid, as people who have manual transmissions are very capable of driving their car safely. So, before I haul my spare tires to participate in the burnout contest, am I automatically disqualified from entering? My car is a 95 Pontiac Firebird Formula. Built by me, 520 break horsepower. (That means at the crank) But, it has a t-56 manual tranny. Thanks for any help here! ~Cody

I don't know anything for sure, but i think they'll let you enter IF you have a line lock. The reason being that stick shift car owners usually try to shift from first to second during the burnout to make the best smokeshow only to hop the front wheel over the wheel chock that their front tire is up against. I witnessed it happen a few years ago, it usually tears up the front fender.

Oh ok, well that makes sense I guess... damnit I dont have one of those either.
Well, anyone know anything for sure? I wish they would just post the rules on here somewhere... I have spent an hour looking and nothing is turning up. I have an hour drive there, and I dont want to lug around my spare set of tires in my cramped for space firebird if they wont even let me smoke 'em.

Umm, they're probably allowed but you won't win unless you blow it up on the spot. Most Car Craft readers are not real huge fans of front-drivers. Last year i was pretty pissed seeing that crappy Astro van (among other p.o.s's) entered. I think they shouldn't let people enter junk cars, trucks, vans, etc. Just my $.02 of course.

I know this is after the fact, but front wheel drive cars are not allowed. You must have an automatic transmission, plus you can't have any power adders like nitrous, turbos, or superchargers.
