That sucks, you'd think there'd have to be some RWD transmisions around. I'm suprised there's no wrecked trucks in there.

I like the idea of a 496; if you're going to pay the bucks and weight penality for a big block you might as well take full advantage of it.

Don't build no peanut-sized BBC 497. With an .080-over production BBF, you might be able to go 557 c.i.d.

With a $2000 FRPP block, then you could contemplate some really big mills . . . .

(gotta love that massive BBF bore spacing)

Of course a more moderately-sized turbo big block would make more sense.

There's nothing wrong with a BBF, except he already owns a camaro. Ford engines don't belong in Chevys any more than Chevy engines belong in Fords.

my  dart pro 1's where almost that much.......  can't wait...

If it won't move,FORCE it,If it breaks,

Yeah, the only thing that's holdin me up is what i'm going to do for heads.  I'm going to have to spend money paycheck to paycheck, so shelling out 2500 bucks for a set of high performance bbc heads is kinda outa the question.  I can get a set of '71 Vette Castings for cheap, but I don't know if they'll support the 500 horse I wanna make.

Ok so big blocks are getting rare in comparison to other blocks but there are still vintage salvage yards, though many are pirates, I have seen ten bbc's for sale in the last year for under 500 two for a hundred even. Though smaller mils at least do a sbc or sbf that we can duplicate, I realize this teritory has been covered by many idividuals but we need to know best part selection fuel controll etc...  On a five liter sbc, would one rape a volvo, dsm, saturn, Toy, etc...  14b dsm 16b who produces the most durable quickest spool up most efficiant impeller.  I know that I am broke and can not afford to continue switching parts till I get it right, give us a place to start.  I mean it is undeniable that boost makes power or a two liter motor couldn't make 500 horses,  why not use 5 and at least double that.  Granted that tuning would be much different, but what ignitions work best, crank triger adjustable hei magneto's coil per cylider with a computer?  So many good links but so few step buy steps,  Best place to tap the oil pan most apropriate oil controll.  Personally I am sold on a jy turbo set up, for a sbc it seems overly feesable.  When I first got into cars all the mags had step by steps on mods now they have step by steps on how to install your new 500 dollar part.  Or they tell you about sombodys ride without build info.  Any body ever read modified it's pictures of chicks cars and a big shopping list mostly dedicated to nissan with absolutely no real info on building save one issue last year on motor conversions its sad this is the slop they are selling to kids.  Show us how its done, and maybe help convert some people to real power.  And work you do yourselfe instead of what to buy and who should install it.

You gotta check out these crazy pix.

Dumb ricer sez he scored an . . .

"XS-Power" brand turbo on eBay.

That sucka  split right down the middle (th' turbo, not the dumb cheap m0 f0 ricer) at a brutal 6 psi boost on hiz Honda weed whacker.

Frag city, Baby! (check out the pix! Check out the Pix!)

The ricer Krew all guesses that the Chinaman-turbosan EPOXY'D the compressor together (Guess them Chi-com Dawgs never heard o' J.B. WELD!)

Probably should have spent his duccets on more neon or a bigger wing.  Looks like an "XS POWER" doorstop!

(Check out the pix, Bro!)

So what was the point of that post? That you can get ripped off on eBay? There's nothing new about that.

I took from it--after filtering out all of the gratuitious import bashing--that "Chevysxz" is critical of the idea that "cheap turbos" are available on eBay.

How to find "screamin' deals on parts at the JY, on the internet and on eBay would be an interesting part of a BUDGET B-I-G CUBIC INCH V8 TURBO PROJECT IN CC!

If its not TURBOCHARGED, you're not finished yet . . . .

I think CC needs to do the story to prove one of us right!

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum, and I happened upon this particular thread. Here goes.....So no one wants to see the JY-turbo theme on anything Chevy or Ford. Here's one: Freiburger wants to do something with the Valiant he scored? Slam a junkyard 318 or 360 in it,add a tranny and rear end to support it. Slap the previously-mentioned T-3's, home-fab the ducting(not duct-tape, but no hig-end cabon-fiber-billet-whatever)and add a plate-nitrous kit to it. Take it to the track, and let the hilarity(or would that be insanity..hmm...)ensue. High tech? No. Good Fun? Oh yeah..... Tire Abuser...................

That'd be a great story . . . but we still want to see turbos (and not T3s) on at least a 440, too!

Does Freiburger still have the JY 440-powered "hose-clamped transmission mount" car (it was red, I think it was a Swinger or Scamp hardtop)  that he made his big splash with at Petersen about 10 years ago?  Maybe he could "hairdry" it.

Great idea!

Loose the BOOST!

Why should the import tuners have all the fun?

That was the longest post in the "history of man" (paraphrasing HRM on the 1968 428 Cobra Jet). I doubt too many took the time to digest it. Their loss.

But CC ought to print it as a good overview of the Ford v. Chevy war.  I think this month's Street Rodder makes some of the same points in the 50th Anniversary celebration of the SBC.

This is a completely insane thread which began in 2003.  I can't imagine why CC won't listen to the grassroots call for a cheap, big turbo V8 build-up.

I agree that CC should do a story about how to find "screamin' deals" on cheap turbos without getting ripped off.

Man, those pix were sickening.  I can't believe eBay doesn't shut them down.
